Fatballs are the latest food trend taking over Instagram and health fanatics.
The newest food fad is also known as energy bites, fat bombs, protein balls, bliss balls and protein balls. They are known as the official snack or meal replacement in the fitness world.
On Instagram, there are more than 106,000 pictures with the hashtag “proteinballs” and nearly 80,000 tagged “energyballs.”
More delicious fat ballz for you ⚽️?⚾️?? I like having these made so I can just grab 1 or 2 to take with me as a snack or even a sweet, healthy treat before bed. As we know I’m an advocate for healthy fats because of the blood sugar balancing, hormone health and healthy skin properties. ? These are pretty similar to the ones I posted awhile back but I used cashew butter instead of almond and added a heaping tablespoon of cacao powder to make it chocolately and higher in magnesium and antioxidants. ??♀️ PS. I uploaded a new “What I eat in a day” video on YouTube. Link is in my bio! ?
What are Fatballs Made Of?
The balls are made by pureeing rich health foods such as nut butter, coconut oil, dried fruit and health supplements in a food processor. They are then rolling large spoonfuls of the mixture in toppings such as an unsweetened cocoa powder or chia seeds.
The end result is a dense, nutty raw food that’s high in protein or fat, depending on the recipe.
The end result is a healthy bite that’s not only rich in flavour but also high in nutrients.
Whereas previously they were a snack to sustain their energy throughout the day, some people are now eating fatballs as meal replacements altogether. However, there could be a downside to missing out full meals in a day.
According to a study published in the journal Appetite, people are more likely to overeat when they eat foods that they perceive as snacks rather than meals.Study participants ate about 50 percent more calories after their snack, compared to the participants who had the same amount of food in a meal setting.
So choosing to eat fatballs instead of balanced meals could lead you to go overboard with the moreish snacks. But eaten in moderation fatballs are a great source of nutrition when eaten sensibly.
Although you may get some funny looks ordering a fatball with your coffee.
