Introducing the Skype Professional Account
Microsoft has unveiled a new version of Skype for small business owners and freelancers. The software giant gave a preview of the new “Skype Professional Account” this week and will soon be released in the US.
This new account hosts a bunch of extra features which includes the ability to book meeting, make notes and take payments, all from the comfort of a chat client. The aim is to reduce the number of tools and services anyone conducting a business online needs to use.
Useful for Freelancers
This is particularly useful for freelancers that might use Skype to provide tutorials, training, or consulting. In Microsoft’s release for the new account they pointed out the usefulness of the new version for small business owners, ‘All the features work together.
For example, a payment request can be sent along with a booking. You’ll also be able to see all your notes without leaving the app. In addition, you’ll be able to easily port your contacts over to the Skype Professional Account Preview desktop client while your customers and clients continue to use their familiar Skype app to work with you.’
Limited Spaces for Preview
For anyone who is already using Skype, Microsoft says that it will be very simple to port across a list of contacts. The company also points out that it will be possible to use each of the Skype Professional Account features in conjunctions with each other — so you could send a booking and a payment request at the same time.
Users of the regular version of Skype will be able to search for businesses from within the app. Microsoft says that there only a limited number of spaces available for people to try out the preview, and a survey giving the chance to sign up to take part can be found on the Skype Professional Account homepage.
