Salted Caramel Pepsi is due to be launched this Christmas. It will be alongside a range of other Pepsico products such as Mountain Dew and Gatorade.

Limited Edition Flavour

Pepsi is launching a limited-edition salted caramel-flavoured cola for Christmas.

The soda company rolled out the new flavour alongside Holiday Brew Mountain Dew — which SnackGator predicts could be a combination of regular Mountain Dew and its cherry-flavoured cousin Code Red — on Nov. 6, prompting a wide range of reactions from Pepsi consumers.

Pepsi said the soda ‘blends the refreshing taste of cola with a delicious caramel finish,’ apparently, and uses less sugar than the standard flavour (which is then made up with a combination of natural and artificial flavourings). However, the internet’s reactions have been divided.

Internet Divided

Some were horrified at the idea of the sweet and salty taste combination. “I can’t go to sleep knowing that Salted Caramel Pepsi is out there,” wrote Twitter user Pessimippopotamus.

“Why is Salted Caramel Pepsi a thing?” added PolarUrsaMajor. “What does it taste like? Who thought it would be a good idea?”

However, others were intrigued by the idea of the dessert-inspired drink. “I just bought a Salted Caramel Pepsi,” tweeted MegaDanX. “It tastes like someone put a pancake covered in syrup in a Pepsi bottle.”

Another said: “Just encountered the abomination that is salted caramel flavoured Pepsi.”

Chris commented: “Love salted caramel but in Pepsi? That sounds awful.

Still, Time to Try the Flavour

Those who are still curious have a limited time to try the soda, which won’t be on shelves forever. But if this particular flavour doesn’t spark curiosity, there may be something even more intriguing on the way.
Speaking to Today, Pepsi’s Chad Stubbs added that the company came up with ‘some really great other flavours’ during development, which may hit stores down the line.
